SHERBURNE – It was a historic night at Marauder stadium as the Sherburne-Earlville Lady Timberwolves girls’ flag football team took the field for the first time in school history, joining both Norwich and Greene as the only Chenango County flag football teams.

“ Girls’ flag football is growing across the country and we’ve had girls asking about playing, so we brought the idea up to the school and had a soft sign up,” Coach Bob Carhart said. “We had 56 girls sign up and now have 16-17 girls on the team.”

Carhart said the school was fully on board and the girls are very excited to play.

“It’s a chance for those girls that don’t play a sport to join and show off their athleticism,” Carhart said.

The team is fairly young with the team just starting its first season, already in the wrath of other Section III teams that have been a part of the league since its pilot start in 2022 and official beginning in 2023.

S-E hosted defending small-schools Section III champion Oneida on Tuesday evening, where the Lady Timberwolves did put up a battle but ran out of time and fell 19-13.
